was fun to see Tino Martinez and Paull O'neill back on the field along with countless other former Yankees and Major Leaguers including: Goose Gossage, Wade Boggs, Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield, Ozzie Smith, and even Ernie Banks. Taking a look around baseball one thing is clear, younger is better. Baseball is not a game dominated by older, experienced teams. It has become a game that is about youth, athleticism, energy and excitement. This is an extremely exciting time in baseball as there is a brand new fresh crop of youngsters who are taking the game by storm. Every team that is leading their division or contending for a playoff spot has a lot of youth and enthusiasm. They are ready to take the torch from older players like Ken Griffey Jr, Greg Maddux, Curt Schilling, and John Smoltz. With players like Jay Bruce, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Hanley Ramirez, Jon Lester, Troy Tulowitzki, Ryan Braun, and Evan Longoria the league looks like its in good hands.

y have the best record in the major leagues and have 9 and 4 game leads in the loss column over the Yankees and Red Sox respectively. They are a story just like the 1969 Mets and the 1991 Braves as they attempt to go from worst to first. They have done it with a lot of athleticism, youth, pitching and defense. Led by Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, and BJ Upton the Rays can run with anyone and play great defense. Their pitching staff has turned into one of their rocks. With Scott Kazmir, Jamie Shields, and Matt Garza upfront they have a 1-2-3 that can match up with anyone else. And their bullpen is now one of the top in the leagues anchored by Troy Percival who has re-ignited his career. But the main guy to focus on is third baseman Evan Longoria. He has brought instand credibility to the Rays lineup. He plays gold glove third and can hit with anyone else. He is a clutch performer who will be the face of their orginization for years to come. I do not expect the Rays to go anywhere the rest of the way as even a 500 finish will lead them to 90+ wins.

All of New York needs to give Kyle Farnsworth a little forgiveness. Everytime he enters a game or even warms up there is a chorus of boos and groans. Everyone is always expecting the worse everytime he enters the game. In actuality they should be expecting him to get the job done. He has been extremely servicable and dependant this year as the 8th inning man.

It was a game that the Yankees probably don't win last month or even last week. Girardi's tyrade seems to have woken the team up and gotten them going. They kept fighting and clawing and finally found a way to win. Maybe it wasnt the prettiest game but it earned them a split, which is great after dropping the first two.

3) Jermaine Dye- Dye has been the Whitesox best player in the first half. Every game I watch the Whitesox play he is making a great catch, hitting a homerun, or getting a clutch hit.

for the 2008 allstar game at Yankee Stadium, I do believe there should be good contingent from the Yankees. Besides Jeter and A-Rod who are the top two vote getters I believe that they should be joined by Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Jason Giambi, and Johny Damon. Damon is hurt so he should be named and he wont even need to play. Mussina is 2nd in the league with 11 wins and showed Francona what he can do last night. Giambi is in top 5 in OPS and HR's and could easily fill in for Ortiz as the DH. A case can be made for Matsui but I do not think that there will be more than 5

Following the Yankees 18 run outburst it looked like they were back and ment business. Apparantly that was just a mirage as this team continues to struggle. The only thing consistant about this team is their inconsistency. One day they look amazing like world beaters (either with a pounding like wednesday or by doing enough to beat Santanna Sat) and then they have games like lastnight or monday, tuesday where they do nothing right and their general interest in the game has to be questioned.

I still am in shock over not bunting last night but its time to get over it. Tonights game is 100 % on the offense. They need to score whatever it takes, ifits 10 runs they need to get 10 if its 20 they need 20. Hank is right they need to step up. The pitching has been great the last few games and if the offense was average they would have won most of them. So tonight and the next few are on the offense. I dont care who you face the offense needs to get the job done. Jeter, Giambi, Abreu, Cano, A-rod, Damon, Gardner, Betemit get the job done tonight and lets face Boston with a positive feeling.

I find it ludacris that the media is making a big deal about this a-rod madonna thing. The guy is a married man leave him alone who know what your doing to his relationship. He should be getting praised for the way he has embraced the young boy with cancer who he brought to the game last night. Instead he is bombarded with MAdonna questions, with the young boy right in front of him.

The Magical Mustaches sounds a lot like a band name, but it's a tactic that I'm betting more of the Yankees will be employing in the next few days.  I don't see Jeter doing it, but Giambi's mustache turned around his slump in a hurry, and Johnny Damon's doesn't seem to be hurting him much either (he's batting something like .310 since he grew it).
